A restaurant for all seasons: Scalini 

London’s popular Italian dining destination, Scalini, opens its porte at the Four Seasons Resort Jumeirah

Scalini has now opened its doors to diners at the Four Seasons Jumeirah. Inspired by a love of Italy’s coastal cuisine, Sardinian Chef Monserrato Marini’s bespoke menu honours the traditions of classic Italian cooking and culture, while infusing them with an upscale, urban taste. With 30 years of business under its belt, Scalini showcases the best of the cuisine offering traditional favourites, an impressive selection of fresh seafood and indulgent desserts.

The venue promises culinary entertainment from the chefs, who will cook right in front of you. Great if you want to ensure they leave out the mushrooms, or add a bit more salt, but we can see fights breaking out, given the alleged fiery combination of an Italian temperament and a chef’s temperament.

General manager Roberto Roberti describes Scalini as: “More than a restaurant, it’s a showcase of the very best that Italy has to offer – the cuisine, the character, fused together with an authentic charm. The service we provide has been passed on from generation to generation to ensure that the essence of the Scalini brand remains as strong today in Dubai, as it was when it first opened in London thirty years ago.”

Setting itself up at Four Seasons Jumeirah’s Restaurant Village, Scalini faces stiff fine dining competition from the ever-popular Coya, Jean-Georges Kitchen and Nurs-Et, the Turkish steak house.

Still, the 130-seat restaurant and bar has its UK reputation to build upon in the fussy Dubai dining scene. Scalini in the UK has been patronised by a mixed bag of celebrities including the Rolling Stones’ Ronny Wood, Ringo Star from The Beatles, actors Tom Cruise, Dustin Hoffman and Vin Diesel, and high-trousered music producer and TV presenter, Simon Cowell.

Outside, there’s an enchanting garden and pergola, while the interior is inspired by memories of the ocean, with deep marine blue interiors, balanced by terracotta tiles and magnolia-washed walls. Candy orange striped cushions on the seats give a vibrant pop of colour. Marble statues and decorative artworks enhance the space. An open kitchen is at the heart of the venue.

The venue also offers al fresco dining, perfect for these cooler months.

Chef Marini and his culinary brigade are offering signature dishes including spaghetti lobster, grilled langoustines, veal Milanese, risotto di mare and tiramisu. Theatrical presentation at the table includes pasta prepared in a Parmigiana cheese wheel, banana flambés, homemade desserts and sorbets, all made in front of your eyes.

Executive Chef Monserrato Marini said: “Bringing Scalini to Dubai has given us an opportunity to be creative with our cooking, and present an amplified version of the cuisine that so many have come to know and love. It has been a process of passion – from sourcing the freshest and finest ingredients, to tailoring our dishes to suit the tastes of the region. Our signature menu has been perfected over many years, which gives each dish a taste of our heritage and experience, and we are very excited to introduce this to the UAE.”

Scalini also offers a good selection of vintages and classic beverages, available in a lounge and bar.
