RECIPE: Savoury Falafel Waffles

These savoury waffles will bring wow to your table at breakfast, lunch or dinner.

Healthier than their fried counterparts, the fact that these are grilled in a waffle iron cuts down on the fat content, but leaves them warm and tasty.

If you don’t own a waffle iron, try shaping the mixture into a flat square, around 2.5cms thick, and bake in the oven at 210C for 20-30 minutes, until golden brown.

While we’ve suggested some toppings below, we like them with poached egg, or sliced avocado and kale if you want to be bang on trend.

Serves: 3 – 6

Preparation time: 5 minutes to 1 Hour

Cooking time: 36 Minutes





  • 2 cups ready made falafel mix
  • 1 3/4 cups water
  • [Toppings]
  • Organic Tahini
  • Fresh Parsley, chopped
  • Roasted Red Peppers, drained and chopped
  • Lemon, sliced into wedges


  • In a large bowl, combine falafel mix and water. Cover and let sit as per packet instructions - often between five minutes and an hour
  • Preheat waffle iron.
  • Scoop 1/3 of the batter onto the center of the waffle iron and spread evenly with a spatula toward the edges.
  • Close waffle iron and cook for 12 minutes, until golden brown.
  • Remove waffle from iron and repeat process twice (you'll end up with three large waffles).
  • To serve, garnish waffles with chopped peppers and parsley, a drizzle of tahini and a squeeze of lemon.
